This 1979 Kicking Mule release, the only studio album by Conundrum, is a fine showcase for the manifold skills of Glasgow-born musical legend Bert Jansch. He's an austerely powerful vocalist; a gifted composer, brilliantly blending American and British influences; an imaginative leader, having co-founded the groundbreaking Pentangle in the late 1960s; and, particularly, a unique and electrifying guitar stylist who was dubbed "the Jimi Hendrix of acoustic guitarists" by Neil Young, and has influenced scores of players from Young himself to Paul Simon and Alex DeGrassi. Multi-instrumentalists Nigel Portman-Smith and Martin Jenkins round out Conundrum; former Pentangle vocalist Jacqui McShee guests on one track. Track Listing (click for mp3 samples) |
